About us
Parhelio was born on December 21, 1999, in view of the need to publicize more specialized works than those usually done in solar observation (proper motions of spots, activity complexes, etc ...), of course, without forget other more "classic" observations such as Wolf's number.
Parhelio is not an Association. Despite its close ties with the Agrupación Astronómica Cántabra, Parhelio is an independent page where any observer of the Sun can participate with his data, images, articles, etc ...
You also have at your disposal a mailing list where we exchange observations, news, and other things related to the Sun. You can visit the main page at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/obs_solar/
How to participate
To collaborate, it is sufficient that you send us to the address parhelio@astrocantabria.org the material you want, trying to take into account the following points:
- Since January 2010, we have forms for the observers themselves to enter the Wolf number, Areas and the SV index. If you wish to provide your information, write us so we can provide you with an access password.
- The measures of position and areas must go in a text file (.txt) with the same format that appear on the page. We recommend using the SOL program to obtain these measurements, since it automatically generates said format.
- The images must be in jpg format (occasionally, gif). Bmp, tiff, psd, etc images will not be admitted ... Passing them to jpg format with a 70 - 80% compression allows to reduce the size considerably without an appreciable loss of quality. Sometimes, the drawings or graphics occupy less in gif format, which can be easily checked before sending them.
- It is important to pay attention to the dimensions of the images. The images that appear on the page, do not aim to measure, but its visualization. An image of 5000 pixels wide on a 2000 pixel monitor will overflow the screen and will not be seen properly.
- It is convenient that the photos and drawings are accompanied by some notes such as day, time, telescope, camera, etc ...
- The articles will preferably be sent in Word. We reserve the right to change the format to adapt it to the rest of the page; Of course, without modifying the content.
Except in cases where it is indicated otherwise, the observations receive no treatment, and appear on the page as received. The responsibility for them corresponds exclusively to the observers.
